NOTE TAKING

            NOTE TAKING STRATEGIES

Taking notes is an important part of the life of every student. ... When you are reading or listening, taking notes helps you concentrate. In order to take notes - towrite something sensible - you must understand the text. As listening and reading are interactive tasks, taking notes help you make sense of the text.

WHY DO WE HAVE TO TAKE NOTES

  • To organize your materials so it will be more easier to refer when needed.
  • To be more concentrated because you are required to pay a lot of attention to listen to whoever is providing the information.
  • To improve performance because the more you records, the more will you remember.
WHY REVIEW NOTES

  • We lose 80% of what we hear if it is not reviewed within a few hours.
  • Identify any questions for peers, and ask the professor during next class.
  • There is no enough time to absorb all the information given in class if it’s not reviewed on a regular basis.
  • Think : “If I were tested on this lecture tomorrow, would I ace it ?
what should we do BEFORE CLASS ?

  •  Recall the notes from the day before.
  •  Recite your reading assignment before class.
  •  Make sure you have paper, text, pens / pencils, and handout before your lecturer come in.
  • Write the date at the top of your paper for reference later.
  • Leave spaces between the lines so that you can add information within notes.
